We collect original items that relate to Queensland’s defence from 1824 to the present day. Items that come with good stories, or are associated to people or events significant to Queensland, are of primary interest.

We seek to preserve the heritage of the armed forces based in Queensland through objects such as art, photographs, letters, diaries, books and pamphlets, souvenirs, trophies, uniforms, medals, weapons, inert munitions, maps, plans, flags, and banners.

We don’t collect copies of photographs, documents or artwork or commercially produced material. We can’t accept material that you don’t legally own. We may not be interested in items requiring significant investment to restore, repair or store. We won’t take hazardous material including live munitions, chemicals, asbestos, or radioactive material.

Items should have a Queensland link.  At present our focus is on those parts of Queensland’s military history that are poorly reflected in our existing museum collection, including:

  • Objects relating to the British Army in Queensland 1824 – 1869, or our colonial defence forces from 1860 to 1901;
  • Material relating to Queenslanders in the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force.
  • Items related to female personnel in any of the Services.

If you have something you think we might be interested in, send us an email.
